Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Sunil Gavaskar’s recent comment on Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma has triggered an outrage on social media. During the 6th IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kings 11 Punjab (KXIPunjab), Sunil Gavaskar reportedly made a below the belt remark that didn’t go down well with RCB and Virushka fans. The legendary cricketer was trolled and slammed left right and centre for his distasteful comment. Even Anushka Sharma called him out through her long Instagram post. 

Hours after the IPL match, netizens have now taken to Twitter to put the complete video of Gavaskar’s comment and said his comment is misconstrued. Apparently, Gavaskar, who was in the commentary box was reportedly referring to an old video of Virushka playing cricket. During the lockdown, a video of Virat and Anushka, before their pregnancy announcement, playing cricket on their terrace went viral. In the video, Virat was seen blowing, while Anushka was on the batting side.

 Sunil Gavaskar said in his commentary, “He (Virat Kohli) knows that he can improve by practising harder. During the lockdown, he only practised on Anushka's bowling which is evident from a video that I saw. But that is not going to be enough.” Now, many of Twitterati are also coming out in support of the legendary cricketer.


A user tweeted, “Nothing wrong has been said by #SunilGavaskar. Critics should listen to the commentary first. Just imagine how history has been wrongly written for centuries.”


A while back, Anushka Sharma also took to her Insta story and slammed the commentator. Posting a long note, Mrs Kohli asked, “Why is she always dragged in the cricket controversy.” Replying to Anushka, a user wrote, “What #SunilGavaskar commentated last night didn't seem to be a big deal until last night ..Still wondering and trying to find out wrong in his statement ...Never thought someone as open-minded and sensible as #AnushkaSharma would make such a big scene...” So what you think, was Gavaskar’s comment blown out of proportion?
